Time is running out for 200,000 children in Yemen who face deadly levels of malnutrition. Aid workers say a total of 10 million Yemenis don’t have enough to eat, but that they have half of the funds needed to address the worst cases. [NPR]

Global warming projections made by the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) predict extreme heat, high winds, and dry conditions. This deadly combination is currently playing out in the Colorado wildfires, which scientists call a sneak peek at future weather conditions influenced by climate change. [The Guardian]

A hill-slide slum in Port-au-Prince is being forcibly evacuated by the Haitian government under the guise of protecting poor residents from landslides. But the residents, who cannot afford to live anywhere else, point out that the rich will be allowed to stay in their hill-side homes. [BBC]

Civil war between the Burmese army and the Kachin rebel group has displaced 70,000 people. Both sides use child soldiers and are responsible for land mines throughout the northern region. [Washington Post]

Despite the billions of dollars spent by the Ukraine to host the Euro 2012 football championship, the government claims it can’t afford to treat 40,000 HIV-positive citizens who require immediate treatment. Advocacy groups say that politicians have embezzled the funds earmarked for patient treatment. [Washington Post]
